August 2026 – Retro Ecowall Details Part 1

This detail set has been produced in collaboration with Ecological Building Systems, specialists in sustainable building products and systems, and covers the application of their Retro Ecowall® internal wall insulation system to existing solid brick and stone walls.

The Retro Ecowall® system is designed specifically for the retrofit of traditional solid masonry buildings, where improving thermal performance without compromising breathability or moisture management is essential. The system combines Diasen Diathonite Thermactive.037 cork-lime insulating plaster, Gutex Thermoroom natural wood fibre insulation boards, Lime Green Solo breathable lime-based finishing plaster, and Auro natural breathable paint, achieving U-values of 0.32W/m²K with 80mm boards on a 215mm solid brick wall. Before installation, all sources of moisture in the wall must be identified and resolved; further guidance is available from Ecological Building Systems.
